The suburb’s name is believed to have come from English county of Berkshire. The land was given to Richard Rouse as a land grant in 1838. Rouse may have chosen this name because he had been married in North Hinksey, which was then part of Berkshire.

The Northern Road and Richmond Road connect Berkshire Park with other cities and suburbs. Richmond Road joins Westlink M7 at Dean Park NSW connecting Berkshire Park with Sydney. Busways provides daily bus service from Berkshire Park to Other suburbs.
